Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness activities in 2019
The Fiji network continued to work with the UNDP Country Office on resilient townships, where the private sector is a key partner for infrastructure development.
In August, the network organized a Council Meeting together with OHCHR Regional Office to discuss the importance of human rights in the context of the private sector and disaster management.
Disaster Response and Recovery in 2019
In 2019, the network responded to four emergencies, including two cyclones, flooding and a health emergency.
The Fiji Business Disaster Resilience Council (FBDRC) addressed two cyclones, flooding and a health emergency in 2019. They supported with coordination and dissemination of information between the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the private sector. The network provided updates from companies to NDMO on conditions on the ground and on critical needs prior to governmental teams being dispatched. They also provided support on and coordinated relief supplies.
