Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness activities in 2019
With the support of USAID, the Vanuatu Business Resilience Council (VBRC) convened a training of trainers on business continuity planning in April to 128 business owners and operators across three provincial locations on separate islands.
VBRC also received US$ 350.000 funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to strengthen the institutional capacity building of the organization, and enhance access to climate finance through tailored information dissemination and guidance, delivery of trainings and workshops on business resilience, and coordination and alignment of resilience building activities between the private sector, the national government and civil society.
Disaster Response and Recovery in 2019
Ambae is a very large and frequently active volcano in the New Hebrides archipelago of Vanuatu. Recent eruptions (from 2017 to 2019) have resulted in multiple evacuations as ashfall has made it dangerous for local populations to stay in their villages. From August through November 2019, the private sector through the Vanuatu Business Resilience Council (VBRC) provided sea transportation to 11.000 people who were displaced due to an eruption in 2018 and were allowed to return home.
