Launched in 2017, the Plateforme Humanitaire du Secteur Privé (PHSP), or Private Sector Humanitarian Platform in Côte d’Ivoire, brings together private sector entities to engage in humanitarian action in a strategic and coordinated manner. Housed under the General Confederation of Businesses of Côte d'Ivoire (Confédération Générale des Entreprises de Côte d'Ivoire - Patronat ivoirien, CGECI), the platform works closely with the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Cohesion and Compensation for Victims (MSCSIV), the Ministry of the Budget, the United Nations system and the Côte d'Ivoire Red Cross. PHSP Côte d’Ivoire aims to improve the understanding of how private sector members can contribute to disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response and recovery through their areas of expertise in sustainable partnership with the national and local authorities and aid organizations.

Since its inception, PSHP Côte d’Ivoire has:

  • Collected and distributed private sector contributions in response to floods and the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • Raised awareness about the role of the private sector in disaster management;
  • Disseminated situational updates and information on preparedness measures; and
  • Provided capacity building support on business continuity planning and SME resilience.

Despite severe restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, PHSP Côte d’Ivoire continued to raise awareness about mitigation measures and distribute health kits and other donations from the private sector. PHSP is also running a private sector call centre to provide information and guidance, including support with business continuity planning.
