Engaging companies in manmade disasters – second webinar about the new CBi guidance toolkit

Connecting Business initiative Secretariat
Event date 7 Aug '19 15:00 - 16:00
Event location Geneva • Switzerland

With the support of the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO), the Connecting Business initiative (CBi) and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) have developed a new resource Engaging companies in manmade disasters – a guidance toolkit for private sector networks. This flagship toolkit supports CBi Member Networks and other collective private sector action platforms in navigating the challenges of manmade disaster contexts. It provides a framework for them to analyze, develop and execute an engagement strategy that leverages private sector capabilities and supports governments and the humanitarian community. Three CBi member networks – Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya and Turkey – were selected to pilot the implementation of the guidance toolkit.

This webinar provides an overview of the guidance toolkit and its implementation. It clarifies the rationale for the private sector to address even the more challenging humanitarian contexts, highlights the elements of a landscape assessment methodology, explains the importance of risk analysis and proposes ways to determine the most appropriate activities for private sector networks in manmade disaster contexts. Furthermore, the CBi Member Network in Turkey shares some insights and lessons they have learnt during the process.
