In the context of the Austrailian Government funded project on Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Indian Ocean Rim with the collaboration of the IORA Secretariat, UN Women is producing a series of webinars on the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), to foster enabling environments for women’s economic empowerment both in the public and the private sectors.
The next webinar in the series, Implementing the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States, will focus on how companies can promote gender equality and women’s economic empowerment and also contribute to sustainable peace and development in the countries and territories in which they operate by implementing the WEPs.
Guest speakers will include: Dr. Sadiyo Said, Founder and Chancellor of Hano Academy in Mogadishu, Somalia and Chair of the Managing Committee of Somali STEM Society; and Ms. Alice Laugher, CEO of Committed to Good, a company that provides staff, systems and in-country management, enabling rehabilitation, reconstruction and redevelopment in conflict-affected areas. Speakers will share their experiences promoting the WEPs and women’s economic empowerment in various countries affected by conflict and the principles and tools they have used to overcome the additional challenges posed by working in such high-risk areas.
